This self-paced learning plan introduces ABBYY FineReader Engine, its core OCR capabilities, document-processing workflows, deployment and licensing basics, and the developer resources used to build document recognition solutions.
The learning plan includes five microcourses covering FineReader Engine fundamentals, the Hello Sample, the document-processing workflow, Processing Profiles, and Batch Processing. You will explore how FineReader Engine supports document conversion, data capture, archiving, scalable processing, profile-based configuration, and multicore OCR workflows.
Several microcourses include practical tasks and optional code walkthroughs for learners who want to explore FineReader Engine implementation details more deeply.
IMPORTANT
All microcourses and the final survey must be completed for the learning plan to be marked as complete. Without submitting the survey, the learning plan will remain incomplete.
Completion time: 8 hours 30 minutes*
Access duration: 365 days
*Please note that the time required to complete this learning plan may vary depending on your background, learning style, and personal learning goals.
Training Environment
Click to view training environment requirements.
To complete the practical tasks successfully, students should use the required training environment.
This learning plan uses two training environments:
- Windows—for the majority of practical tasks
- Linux—for deploying FineReader Engine on Linux and in Docker containers
Students may use the downloadable, preconfigured Virtual Machines for Windows and Linux, or install the FineReader Engine distribution kits on their own machines.
Important: Students must use the exact Windows and Linux builds provided for this learning plan. Different FineReader Engine builds may include different core technologies, parameters, predefined profiles, or required components, and may produce different results.
For the best training experience, only the builds provided in the learning plan should be used. If a student chooses to deploy a different version of FineReader Engine, the ABBYY Support team will not assist with issues that arise during the practical training tasks.
If students choose to work in their own Windows environment, Visual Studio 2022 or later must be installed. ABBYY does not provide support for Visual Studio deployment. For Microsoft’s official deployment documentation, refer to:
https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/visualstudio/deployment
The downloadable VMs already include the required FineReader Engine distribution kits and all necessary resources for the training, including Visual Studio. However, using the downloadable VMs may require additional setup effort, including downloading large VM files, allocating sufficient system resources, and configuring the virtual environment before the training.
Upon completion:
- You will receive a certificate of completion for each microcourse.
- The learning plan will be marked as complete after all microcourses and the final survey have been completed.
- You will receive an ABBYY FineReader Engine learning plan completion certificate.
